The Plaza to dish all things downtown Vegas in new podcast

A new weekly podcast is being launched by the iconic Plaza Hotel & Casino that will provide listeners with the inside scoop into the goings-on in gaming and entertainment in Downtown Las Vegas.

Beginning Wednesday, February 19, 2020, “On the Corner of Main Street” will offer the latest information on developments in gaming, exciting events, and some of the people who have a hand in making Las Vegas’ storied downtown a one-of-a-kind and fast-growing destination.

Podcast details:

According to a Wednesday press release and the Plaza website…

…the podcast will be hosted by Lisa Melmed and co-hosted by Plaza Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Jossel (pictured), along with Russell Aaron, a developer at the Plaza, and Gary Vickery, director of hotel operations.

The group will be joined by special guests, including gaming industry leaders, entertainers, partners and local officials, and will share with listeners their personal perspective on where Sin City got its start, Downtown, and where the historic heart of Las Vegas is headed.

Jonathan Jossel:

“I regularly greet guests and residents, alike, who are amazed by everything going on at the Plaza and in downtown Las Vegas,” said Jossel.

“Not since the heyday of the Rat Pack era has downtown Las Vegas been so exciting. This podcast will be a fun way to highlight downtown’s developments, including new shows, restaurants and attractions and introduce listeners to the people behind the projects that are setting downtown Vegas apart. From my personal anecdotes of running a downtown Vegas hotel/casino to the stories of downtown’s iconic past and the perspectives of current Las Vegas leaders, On the Corner of Main Street will be the place to hear all about downtown Las Vegas.”

According to the press release, the initial 12-episode series of the informative and entertaining podcast will be available on the Plaza’s website, as well as on the Apple Podcast App and Spotify, and will air weekly on Wednesdays beginning on February 19.

Listeners can reportedly count on an exciting lineup of special guests including former mob attorney and Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman; Chief Executive Officer for William Hill US, Joe Asher; the Plaza’s bingo manager, Weldon Russell; and downtown developer Sam Cherry, whose Cherry Developments announced in October 2019, that a new apartment complex, shareDOWNTOWN,’ will soon be constructed in downtown Las Vegas.

Plaza start:

Owned by London-based Tamares Group, a private real estate investment company, the Plaza opened in 1971 and was one of the original classics that helped to establish Vegas as the city of glitz. The gateway to the famous Fremont Street Experience, was, when it opened with just over 500 hotel rooms, the largest hotel and casino in the world, according to the Plaza’s website.

Located on a 17-acre site, the hotel closed in November 2010 for a $35 million renovation and reopened in September the following year. It currently includes 1,003 fully-renovated rooms and suites, with the top four floors of the north tower, approximately 112 rooms, completely renovated in 2019.
